The diamond industry is barbaric, using child slavery in many mines throughout Africa. The diamonds are then hoarded in massive numbers by a couple of cartels who only release a very limited number into the market in order to inflate the price a thousand-fold.  There’s nothing less romantic than supporting the diamond industry or buying into heteronormative tropes.
